Islam first time in the history, bestowed great status and several rights to women and also implemented some of their specific duties in the society according to their nature and capacity and relation. One of these capacities in the society is her duties as a wife. These duties and responsibilities are described briefly in Islamic literature and teachings, so that they may perform their best to maintain and build a strong family and a responsible society. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) provided a large number of examples from His life practice and teachings for wives to follow and act upon these teachings. Some of His (PBUH) described duties of women are: to be a source of  establishing  a family as the first social institute, to enhance the human race and to bring it up with the best care, training  and education, to be a source of spouse satisfaction, courage and counseling, to protect the honor, secrets and assets of her husband, to provide the financial and administrative assistance to her husband when needed, to take care of the social values by paying the rights of neighborhood and to educate the women community etc. In this article it is focused on highlighting these duties and responsibilities of wives in the light of Sīrah of The Prophet (PBUH), so that these may be followed and adopted according to these teachings and role models.
